Convenor:
Annie Richardson and Dr Andrew Kennedy, University of Southampton, Division of Art and Design History, Park Avenue, Winchester SO23 8DL. Tel: 01962 842500
This strand invites papers on historical formations of the artist and categories of artistic identity, and on theoretical approaches to the figure of the artist in the discipline of art history. A combination of historical, critical and speculative analyses might produce a useful debate about the ways in which art history currently handles and constructs the artist. New approaches to biography and intentionality are also included.
