Museums and Resilient Leadership Programme 2017-2018

Described by participants as “life changing”, MRL is a year-long programme to develop future leaders for the cultural sector. Applications are now open for 2017-2018.

Led by Black Country Living Museum, as part of its ACE funded Major Partnership Museums programme, MRL is designed to help those working in the cultural sector to become resilient and entrepreneurial leaders.

Call for papers (reminder) - Beyond Genius and Muse: Collaborating Couples in twentieth-Century Arts

Common perceptions of the artist still picture a lonely genius in a room of his own, writing, painting, or composing great works in isolation while his wife takes care of worldly matters. Conversely, cultural history can sometimes cast artists as vessels floating on a tide of external events. Reality is more complex, especially in the twentieth century. Examining collaborating couples can force us to rethink the paradigms of working relationships in the arts.

Call for papers - Form and Reform Conference, July 27-29, 2017

Form and Reform is a conference on nineteenth-century literature, art, and history to be held at UC Santa Cruz, preceding the Dickens Universe week on Middlemarch. Current debates about form and formalism in Victorian Studies open the door to this dimension of the word “reform,” and they urge us to re-consider their relation. If we can make the distinction between historicist criticism and formalist criticism, how can these engage and challenge each other afresh?

John Cabot University in Rome, Italy, launching Master’s degree in Art History

 John Cabot University will inaugurate its new Master of Arts in Art History in the Fall semester 2017. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the degree is the first US-accredited MA in the history of art based entirely in Rome.
